The termite swarming season for Feasterville and throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey will typically begin in March at the start of warm weather and rainfall.
The swarming season will generally last through the spring season and conclude in early June before the start of summer.
Additionally, swarming activity often resumes just before fall, and lasts from September through October.
Termite “swarmers” are groups of winged adult male and female reproductive termites that leave the nest for the purpose of establishing a new colony.
Season/Timeframe | Location | Key Characteristics |

Early Spring (typically March) | Feasterville, PA & NJ | Start of warm weather and rainfall; beginning of swarming. |

Termite Swarmers | Nests | Winged adult reproductive termites (males & females) leaving to establish new colonies. Often mistaken for flying ants. |
Detecting Swarmers Indoors | Inside Homes/Offices | Indicates a likely termite infestation within the structure. Shed wings are also a strong indicator. |
Termite Damage | Throughout Structures | Can cause over $5 billion in damage annually. Subterranean termites are the main concern in the area. Damage is typically not covered by standard home insurance. |
Termite Inspection Frequency | Homes & Businesses | Recommended at least every 2 to 3 years for early detection & prevention. |
These swarmers or flying termites are often mistaken for flying ants. Winged termites are distinguished by the differences between their wings and body shape. While termites have four wings of about equal length and nearly twice their body length, flying ants have wings only slightly longer than their body, with their back wings much shorter in length than their front wings. Finally, winged termites do not have narrow waists and abdomens like flying ants do.
Detecting winged termites outside of a home or office indicates that a nearby stump or some other other structure was chosen as a viable place to begin colonization. However, after exhausting the available food supply, termite swarmers can enter inside through cracks in floors and around doors and windows. While termite swarmers can be a genuine nuisance, they can be easily collected with the use of a vacuum cleaner and disposed of.
Termite swarmers do not cause damage. Nevertheless, spotting termite swarmers or that of their shed wings indoors or outside around the porch or foundation is a strong indication that the structure is infested with termites.
Termites cause over $5 billion in damage each year. Unfortunately, the most destructive type of termite of all–the subterranean termite–happens to the main type of termite found throughout our area. What’s more, damage caused by termites is not covered by the standard home insurance policy.
